The summer adventure checklist for you and your dog
November 6, 2022With a whole season of lighter evenings and warmer days upon us, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore the great outdoors with your four legged friend. Whether you have an active pooch with high exercise needs, or you simply want to discover some new trails for a fun day out, there are some dog-walk must-haves you don’t want to forget to bring with you.
To help you prepare for a summer of epic adventures, we’ve shared a checklist of what you need to bring on your dog walks…
1. Water bowl
For hot summer days and long walks, a water bowl is essential for keeping in your doggy kit bag. A standard plastic water bowl is ideal for storing in the car, but if you want something on the go you can also purchase collapsible bowls that can be clipped to your bag – ideal for long walks and thirsty pups on a hot summer’s day. Remember to take a bottle of water with you in case water filling stations aren’t available in your chosen stomping ground.
2. Poo bags
For every walk make sure you also have plenty of poo bags – you never know how many you may need and in some places it’s illegal not to pick up after your dog. There are now biodegradable bags available and rolls of bags which can be clipped to your dog’s lead for easy carrying.
3. Pet wipes
Say goodbye to muddy paws all over your car or your home! No matter where your adventure takes you and your dog, UltraGrime’s pet wipes are a must-have for getting paws and claws clean and keeping the dirt outside. Our XXL+ Clothwipes are designed to be tough on mess but kind to your furry friends, with a strong cloth fabric that won’t rip or deteriorate while you use them.
4. Waterproof cover or towel for the car
Once our pet wipes have done their job, having a towel or a waterproof cover in the boot of your car is ideal for the journey home to keep pet hair and moisture to a minimum – especially if it’s been a rainy day, or your dog has found a bit of water to paddle in while out exploring.
5. Toys and snacks
While a long walk might be a chance for you to relax and unwind, it can take a lot of concentration for your four-legged companion to steer clear of distractions and mischief. For good behaviour and long adventures, snacks and toys are perfect and make your dog’s day out even more fun. Make sure to take plenty of rest stops along the way if it’s a hot day or a particularly long walk.
6. Spare lead and a collar
Leads and collars may seem indestructible but you never know when one might accidentally break! To make sure your walk doesn’t have to be cut short – or that you’re chasing after a runaway pooch – keep a spare lead to hand just in case. Reflective leads are great for walking at dusk or if it’s foggy, and make sure your dog’s collar tag has your phone number on it in case they wander a bit too far off the beaten track!
7. First aid kit
Of course, the hope is that you’ll never have to use this but having a doggy first aid kit handy is always a good idea, just in case your dog runs into any accidents on their next adventure. You can put together your own or buy a ready made kit online – you can also ask your vet what to include for extra peace of mind and preparation.
8. Your phone
Most of us don’t go anywhere without our phones these days, but ensuring you take your phone on your summer adventures with your pooch means you can take lots of cute photos and videos of these special memories!
Looking forward to a summer of long dog walks? Don’t let the clean-up operation put you off your next adventure with your furry friend.
